Possessive articles + dieser

Explanation

The possessive articles mein, dein, sein (his), ihr (her) take the same endings as ein. With masculine and neuter nouns: no ending — mein Vater, mein Kind. With feminine nouns and the plural: -e — meine Mutter, meine Eltern. Important: the ending follows the noun's GENDER, not the owner (unlike English his/her). The demonstrative dieser/diese/dieses follows the same logic: dieser Vater, diese Familie, dieses Kind.

Examples

  • Das ist meine Familie. Das ist mein Vater. This is my family. This is my father.
  • Meine Mutter und mein Vater. My mother and my father. (meine + f, mein + m)
  • Diese Familie ist groß.This family is big. (diese + Familie, f)
  • Ist das dein Kind?Is that your child? (dein + Kind, n)
