The little words of politeness — спасибо, пожалуйста, извините — and new Cyrillic letters. After the five familiar ones and six "false friends" from chapter 1, we add letters with no Latin look-alike at all: Б (b), Г (g), Д (d), З (z), Л (l), П (p), Ф (f), Э (e), and the hushers Ж (zh), Ш (sh), Щ (shch), Ч (ch), Ц (ts). Remember: пожалуйста means both "please" and "you're welcome". And the question как дела is the polite opener of any conversation. Standard Russian.

Letters with no Latin twin — they sound as written:
- Б бblike "b" in "boy"
- Г гglike "g" in "go"
- Д дdlike "d" in "do"
- З зzlike "z" in "zoo"
- Л лllike "l" in "look"
- П пplike "p" in "spin"
- Ф фflike "f" in "fee"
- Э эelike "e" in "echo"
The hushers — alike in look and sound, don't mix them up:
- Ж жzhlike the "s" in "measure"
- Ш шshlike "sh" in "shoe" (hard)
- Щ щshcha soft, longer "sh" — as in "fresh cheese"
- Ч чchlike "ch" in "cheese"
- Ц цtslike "ts" in "cats"
