The numbers 1-10 and quel

Explanation

The numbers 1 to 10: un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix. Only un changes with gender, like the article: un frère, une sœur. To ask about a specific thing, use quel — and it AGREES with the noun: quel numéro (m), quelle famille (f), quels frères (m.pl.), quelles sœurs (f.pl.). "Quel est ton numéro ?" asks for a specific number; we keep qu'est-ce que to ask for a definition (in ch13).

Examples

  • Quel est ton numéro?What is your number?
  • J'ai deux frères et une sœur.I have two brothers and one sister.
  • Ma famille a cinq personnes. My family has five people.
  • Quelle famille! What a family! (quelle agrees with famille, f)
