ありがとうThank you

Arigatō

Hiragana continues. Learn the た, な, は, ま rows, plus the 濁点 (ga, da, ba) and 半濁点 (pa) marks. The 濁点 "voices" a sound. Practise words of thanks and apology. Still no grammar point.

ひらがな: た・な・は・ま ぎょうと だくてん— Hiragana: the た/な/は/ま Rows and 濁点

Four rows. Watch out for ち="chi", つ="tsu", ふ="fu".

  • た ち つ て とta chi tsu te toた-row — ち="chi", つ="tsu" are irregular
  • な に ぬ ね のna ni nu ne noな-row — regular
  • は ひ ふ へ ほha hi fu he hoは-row — ふ="fu" (soft, between f and h)
  • ま み む め もma mi mu me moま-row — regular

The 濁点 (゛) voices a consonant. The 半濁点 (゜) attaches only to the は row.

  • が ぎ ぐ げ ごga gi gu ge goか + 濁点 — as in ありがとう
  • ざ じ ず ぜ ぞza ji zu ze zoさ + 濁点 — じ="ji"
  • だ ぢ づ で どda ji zu de doた + 濁点 — as in どうぞ, ど
  • ば び ぶ べ ぼba bi bu be boは + 濁点 — as in こんばんは
  • ぱ ぴ ぷ ぺ ぽpa pi pu pe poは + 半濁点 (the small circle)
