Places in the city: la casa, la escuela, la oficina, el hospital, el banco, la estación, el parque, el baño, la calle, la ciudad. Key point: to say WHERE something is, you use "estar", NEVER "ser". "¿Dónde ESTÁ el banco?", "El banco ESTÁ en la calle". English speakers sometimes use "ser" for location ("El banco es en la calle" ✗). "Ser" is for identity; "estar" is for place.

Estar for location (¿Dónde está?)
Explanation
To say WHERE someone or something is, you use the verb "estar" (estoy, estás, está, estamos, están) — NEVER "ser". Question: "¿Dónde está…?". Answer: "Está en…". English speakers translate "is" with "es" (ser): "El banco es en la calle" ✗ → "El banco está en la calle" ✓. Basic rule: SER for identity and description (Es un banco, Es grande); ESTAR for place and states (Está en la calle, Estoy bien). With places you use "en": en casa, en la escuela, en el banco.
