Final chapter: everything comes together. Greeting, introducing yourself, giving your age with "sein", counting and making plurals, pointing at things (Was ist das?) and asking the location (Wo ist…?) — in one conversation. Social formulas: "Freut mich", "Bis bald". The du/Sie choice returns. New vocabulary: freut mich, wieder, zusammen, alle, verstehen, sprechen, wissen, wollen, die Liebe, bis bald. Culture section: directness and punctuality.

Putting it all together
Explanation
This chapter brings Book 1 together. Think of the pillars. (1) "sein" for identity/origin: Ich bin Mike, ich komme aus Amerika, das ist eine Uhr. (2) Age with "sein": Ich bin einundzwanzig Jahre alt. (3) Gender rules: der/die/das, and every noun is CAPITALISED; in the plural the article is always "die" + its own plural pattern. (4) For a thing: "Was ist das?" + "Das ist ein/eine…". (5) For location: "Wo ist…?" + auf/unter/neben — the verb in position 2. And choose the address: "du" with friends, "Sie" (capital) with Herr Weber or strangers.

Two German values shape every interaction: saying what you mean, and being on time.
Punctuality
Being on time means being EXACTLY on time: five minutes early is ideal, late is disrespectful. For appointments and meetings, punctuality signals reliability and respect.
Directness is polite
Germans state opinions and facts clearly — a clear "Nein" or honest feedback is normal, not hostile. Vague or overly soft answers seem evasive. Don't take directness as coldness.
Less small talk, more substance
Conversations get to the point; the English "How are you?" as filler is lighter here — a "Wie geht's?" expects a real (brief) answer. Being factual (sachlich), separating the issue from the person, is valued.
Congratulations! You've finished Book 1. You can greet, introduce yourself, count, point at things and ask the location — politely and clearly. When unsure: be on time (or a few minutes early), say clearly what you mean, and take others' directness as honesty, not rudeness. See you soon in Book 2!
