Vietnamese · KNLTV Bậc 1 (A1) · Chapter 10

Số điện thoại của bạn là gì?What's your phone number?

Counting from 1 to 10: một, hai, ba, bốn, năm, sáu, bảy, tám, chín, mười. Phone numbers are read DIGIT BY DIGIT (not as a whole number like in English). The question reuses "là gì": Số điện thoại của bạn là gì? New words: number, telephone, to call. Tone corner: the tones on the numbers — một (nặng), bốn (sắc), năm (ngang)…

Numbers 1–10 and phone numbers

Explanation

No new grammar — learn the first ten numbers and reuse "là gì" to ask. Phone numbers are read DIGIT BY DIGIT: 090… is read "không – chín – không…", not grouped into "ninety". When counting things or people, the number comes BEFORE the noun: ba người (three people), hai em. (Zero = "không", the same word as "no" — tell them apart by context.)

Examples

  • Số điện thoại của bạn là gì?What is your phone number?
  • Gia đình tôi có năm người.My family has five people.
