Recap: là, có, address terms, adjectives
Explanation
No new grammar this chapter — we recombine the four things learned through a family photo. Remember: "là" goes before a NOUN (Đây là bố tôi), but NOT before an adjective (Bố tôi tốt). "có" states possession (Tôi có hai em). Pick the address term by age (anh/chị/em). The possessor comes AFTER the noun (gia đình tôi = family-my). Introduce everyone with "Đây là…".

"How old are you?" comes up early and often — not because Vietnamese people are nosy, but because they literally cannot address you until they know your age.
Why age is asked first
The anh/chị/em choice depends on who is older. Asking age (politely, early) is how a Vietnamese person works out the right term. It is practical, not intrusive.
Even a year matters
Being one year older makes you anh/chị; the younger one is em. People really do compare birth years to settle it. And this extends to friends, colleagues, shopkeepers — everyone gets slotted into a kin term.
Respect for elders is built in
Calling an older person ông/bà/bác/cô signals respect; calling yourself "em" to them shows humility. The address system builds respect for age into every sentence.
When unsure: it is fine to ask "Anh/chị bao nhiêu tuổi ạ?" early — add "ạ" to be polite — then use the term their age calls for.
