Weather and seasons El tiempo y las estaciones
Hablar del tiempo. El inglés usa un sujeto "de relleno", "it", que por sí solo no significa nada: It's hot. It's cold. It's sunny. It's raining. Para acciones en curso añades -ing: It's raining. It's snowing. Para preguntar, di "What's the weather like?". El coreano puede omitir el sujeto y decir solo el adjetivo, así que los coreanos dicen "Is raining" o "Very cold today"; el inglés siempre necesita "it": It's raining. It's very cold today.
Dialogue
Is cold or It's cold? — ¿Is cold o It's cold?
- Emma How's the weather in Seoul today, Minsu? ¿Qué tiempo hace hoy en Seúl, Minsu?
- Minsu Is very cold. And is snowing. Muy frío. Y nevando. (desliz: el inglés necesita el sujeto de relleno "it": "It's very cold. It's snowing."; el coreano puede omitir el sujeto, el inglés no)
- Emma Start each one with "it": "It's very cold. It's snowing." Empieza cada una con "it": "It's very cold. It's snowing."
- Minsu Ah, it's very cold today, and it's snowing. Ah, hoy hace mucho frío, y está nevando.
Dialogue
What's the weather like here? — ¿Qué tiempo hace aquí?
- Minsu What's the weather like here in summer? ¿Qué tiempo hace aquí en verano?
- Emma It's hot and sunny. I love summer. Hace calor y sol. Me encanta el verano.
- Minsu And in winter? Is it very cold? ¿Y en invierno? ¿Hace mucho frío?
- Emma It's cold and it often rains. Bring an umbrella! Hace frío y llueve a menudo. ¡Trae un paraguas!

Grammar
It's hot today It's hot today
English weather sentences start with "it" — a subject that fills the slot but points to nothing. For a state, use "it is" ("it's") + adjective: It's hot. It's cold. It's sunny. It's windy. For rain and snow happening now, use "it is" + -ing: It's raining. It's snowing. Add "today", "in summer" or "in winter" to say when: In summer it's hot. In winter it's cold. To ask, use "What's the weather like?" — What's the weather like today? — It's cloudy. Never drop the "it": say "It's raining", not "Is raining".
Las frases del tiempo en inglés empiezan por "it" — un sujeto que llena el hueco pero no señala nada. Para un estado, usa "it is" ("it's") + adjetivo: It's hot. It's cold. It's sunny. It's windy. Para la lluvia y la nieve que caen ahora, usa "it is" + -ing: It's raining. It's snowing. Añade "today", "in summer" o "in winter" para decir cuándo: In summer it's hot. In winter it's cold. Para preguntar, usa "What's the weather like?" — What's the weather like today? — It's cloudy. Nunca omitas el "it": di "It's raining", no "Is raining".
- It's hot and sunny today. Hoy hace calor y sol.
- It's raining, so take an umbrella. Está lloviendo, así que lleva un paraguas.
