Places in the city. Vocabulary: l'école, le bureau, l'hôpital, la banque, la gare, le parc, les toilettes, la rue, la ville, la pharmacie. Key point: to say WHERE something is, you use « être » (French has just one verb, no ser/estar): « La banque est dans la rue », « Je suis au parc ». The preposition « à » combines with the article: à+le = AU, à+les = AUX (but à+la stays « à la », à+l' stays « à l' »): « au parc », « à la gare », « à l'école », « aux toilettes ». English speakers say « à le parc » ✗ → « au parc » ✓.

Where is it? — être + à+le = au
Explanation
French has just one verb for « to be »: ÊTRE (je suis, tu es, il/elle est, nous sommes, ils/elles sont). You use it both for identity (« Je suis Camille ») and for PLACE (« La banque est dans la rue », « Je suis au parc »). No ser/estar choice like in Spanish. To locate, the preposition « à » combines with the article: à+le = AU (« au parc »), à+les = AUX (« aux toilettes »), but à+la stays « à la » (« à la gare ») and à+l' stays « à l' » (« à l'école », « à l'hôpital »). English speakers say « à le parc » ✗ → « au parc » ✓. You also use « dans » (already seen) for inside: « dans la rue », « dans la ville ». To ask: « Où est la banque? ».
