Describing and asking the way. English speakers use the wrong article: „neben der Supermarkt“ ✗ → „neben dem Supermarkt“ ✓. For turning: „nach links/rechts“, „an der Ecke“, „geradeaus“.

Where exactly? — neben/gegenüber/hinter + dative
Explanation
To say exactly where a place is, you use position prepositions: „neben“ (next to), „gegenüber“ (across from), „hinter“ (behind), „zwischen … und …“ (between … and …). English speakers forget the change: „neben der Supermarkt“ ✗ → „neben dem Supermarkt“ ✓. For describing the way: „Geh geradeaus“ (go straight), „an der Ecke nach links/rechts“ (left/right at the corner), „überquere die Straße“ (cross the street), „an der Kreuzung rechts“ (right at the junction).
Examples
- Die Apotheke ist neben dem Supermarkt. The pharmacy is next to the supermarket.
- Die Bank ist gegenüber der Schule. The bank is across from the school.
Go straight and right at the corner.
- Überquere die Straße an der Kreuzung.Cross the street at the junction.
