Casa miaMy home
The house opens its rooms: cucina, camera, bagno, salotto — and the furniture living in them: letto, tavolo, sedia, finestra, porta. To say where things sit, the place prepositions arrive: sopra, sotto, accanto a, davanti a. And the house guards a grammar secret: casa mia, a casa, in cucina — inside the home's walls the articles vanish, an affectionate exception the chapter's title wears. A casa, in cucina — where the walls melt the articles
Explanation
Chapter 25 taught the fusion: in + la = nella, and the rule is healthy — nella stazione, nella borsa. But inside the home a family exception rules: rooms and domestic places go BARE — a casa, in cucina, in camera, in bagno, a letto, a tavola. No article, no fusion: they are frozen pairs, like chapter 24's in centro and in treno — this is the same list growing, not a new rule. The home's possessive softens too: casa mia, casa tua — the possessive AFTER the noun and article-less, an order almost no other noun accepts. When the room is specific or described, though, the article returns with full rights: NELLA cucina di Marco, nella camera piccola. The test: talking about YOUR routine inside the walls (dormo in camera, mangio in cucina)? Bare. Talking about a PRECISE room of someone's? Fusion. To position the furniture, the kit: sopra and sotto work alone (sotto il tavolo), accanto a and davanti a carry the a — which fuses regularly: accanto alla finestra.

You have learned that inside the home the articles vanish. Now step into the real home: the kitchen in charge, the apartment building listening in, and the lunch that stops Sunday.
The kitchen rules, the building listens
In many Italian homes the living room is for guests, but real life happens in the kitchen: eating, studying, arguing all take place at the kitchen table. On the stove, often, a moka — the coffee pot that whistles good morning. And the typical city home is a flat in a palazzo or condominio: neighbors close in both senses — you can smell the ragù from the floor below.
Sunday lunch
On Sundays, in many families, lunch is not a meal: it is an appointment. You go to the grandparents' or the parents' — chapter 10's family at full strength — you sit down a tavola around one and you get up… unhurriedly. Several courses, much talk, the football in the background for someone (chapter 27). It is the Sunday rite's other half: the match at the bar, the lunch at home. If an Italian invites you to Sunday lunch, you have crossed a border: you are family now.
Now you know where real Italian lives: in cucina, a tavola, on Sundays at one. And you can say it without articles — like one of the household.
