Prices and paying 가격과 지불
값 묻기와 지불: price, dollar, cent, expensive, cheap, how much, pay, cash, card. 핵심 문법은 하나엔 "How much is …?", 둘 이상엔 "How much are …?" — 영어는 단수·복수에 따라 동사를 바꿔요. 한국어는 수에 따라 동사를 안 바꾸니 한국어 화자는 "is"를 자주 남겨요: "How much is these bags?" ✗ → "How much are these bags?" ✓. 발음 코너: "dollar", cheap의 "ch", expensive의 강세.
Dialogue
is or are? — is일까 are일까?
- Emma Minsu, do you want to buy these bags? 민수, 이 가방들 사고 싶어요?
- Minsu Yes. How much is these bags? 네. 이 가방들 얼마예요? (실수: these bags는 복수 — "are" → "How much are these bags?")
- Emma "These bags" is plural — use "are": How much are these bags? "These bags"는 복수 — "are"를 쓰세요: How much are these bags?
- Minsu How much are these bags? 이 가방들 얼마예요?

Grammar
"How much is …?" and "How much are …?" "How much is …?"와 "How much are …?"
To ask a price, say "How much" + is / are + the thing. Use IS for one thing: How much is this bag? — It's ten dollars. Use ARE for two or more: How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. The verb must match: one → is, many → are. It is the same rule as "this is / these are". To answer, use a price with "dollars": It's five dollars. To say how you pay: I want to pay by card / with cash. Korean keeps one form of the verb for any number, so watch the plural — with "these bags" you must say ARE, not is.
값을 물을 때 "How much" + is / are + 물건. 하나엔 IS: How much is this bag? — It's ten dollars. 둘 이상엔 ARE: How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. 동사가 일치해야 해요: 하나 → is, 여럿 → are. "this is / these are"와 같은 규칙이에요. 대답은 "dollars"가 든 값으로: It's five dollars. 지불 방법은: I want to pay by card / with cash. 한국어는 어떤 수에도 동사가 한 형태라, 복수를 조심하세요 — "these bags"엔 is가 아니라 ARE.
- How much is this? — It's ten dollars. 이거 얼마예요? — 십 달러예요.
- How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. 이 사과들 얼마예요? — 사 달러예요.
- This bag is expensive. These bags are cheap. 이 가방은 비싸요. 이 가방들은 싸요.
- I want to pay by card. 카드로 지불하고 싶어요.
