Prices and paying Preços e pagar

Perguntar preços e pagar: price, dollar, cent, expensive, cheap, how much, pay, cash, card. A gramática-chave é "How much is …?" para uma coisa e "How much are …?" para mais de uma — o inglês muda o verbo conforme o singular e o plural. O coreano não muda o verbo por número, por isso os coreanos costumam deixar "is": "How much is these bags?" ✗ → "How much are these bags?" ✓. Canto da pronúncia: "dollar", o "ch" de cheap e a tónica de expensive.

is or are? — is ou are?

  1. Emma Minsu, do you want to buy these bags? Minsu, queres comprar estas malas?
  2. Minsu Yes. How much is these bags? Sim. Quanto são estas malas? (deslize: these bags é plural — usa "are" → "How much are these bags?")
  3. Emma "These bags" is plural — use "are": How much are these bags? "These bags" é plural — usa "are": How much are these bags?
  4. Minsu How much are these bags? Quanto são estas malas?

At the shop — Na loja

  1. Minsu Hello. How much is this bag? Olá. Quanto é esta mala?
  2. Assistant It's fifteen dollars. São quinze dólares.
  3. Minsu That's cheap. I want to pay by card. É barato. Quero pagar com cartão.
  4. Assistant Sure. Here you are. Claro. Aqui está.

"How much is …?" and "How much are …?" "How much is …?" e "How much are …?"

To ask a price, say "How much" + is / are + the thing. Use IS for one thing: How much is this bag? — It's ten dollars. Use ARE for two or more: How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. The verb must match: one → is, many → are. It is the same rule as "this is / these are". To answer, use a price with "dollars": It's five dollars. To say how you pay: I want to pay by card / with cash. Korean keeps one form of the verb for any number, so watch the plural — with "these bags" you must say ARE, not is.

Para perguntar um preço, diz "How much" + is / are + a coisa. Usa IS para uma coisa: How much is this bag? — It's ten dollars. Usa ARE para duas ou mais: How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. O verbo tem de concordar: um → is, vários → are. É a mesma regra de "this is / these are". Responde com um preço em "dollars": It's five dollars. Diz como pagas: I want to pay by card / with cash. O coreano usa uma forma do verbo para qualquer número, por isso atenção ao plural — com "these bags" tens de dizer ARE, não is.

  • How much is this? — It's ten dollars. Quanto é isto? — São dez dólares.
  • How much are these apples? — They're four dollars. Quanto são estas maçãs? — São quatro dólares.
  • This bag is expensive. These bags are cheap. Esta mala é cara. Estas malas são baratas.
  • I want to pay by card. Quero pagar com cartão.
