Explanation
好消息：在 sein（ist，sind）之后，形容词保持不变——没有词尾、没有性、没有复数。"Die Familie ist groß。""Das Haus ist klein。""Meine Eltern sind nett。"无论是阳性、阴性、中性还是复数——形容词都不变。这比法语或西班牙语简单得多。（名词前的词尾——"ein großer Mann"——更复杂，要到第二册才学。）现在先享受 ist 和 sind 的简单形式吧。

Crossing on a red pedestrian light — even with no cars — is frowned upon, especially with children around. Following the rule is courtesy, not just obedience. The same with waste: it is carefully separated — paper, packaging, glass (by colour), organic, deposit bottles (Pfand).

Sundays and evenings are quiet hours (Ruhezeit): no loud noise, no drilling, no mowing the lawn. And on Sundays most shops close entirely — plan your shopping for Saturday.

Home and personal space are private. In conversation, though, Germans are direct: a clear yes or no, honest opinions, less small talk. This is not rudeness but respect for clarity (more on this in ch15).
