English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 21

Shopping Ir de compras

Comprar y vender: shop, store, market, supermarket, money, buy, sell, customer, shop assistant. La gramática clave es "want to" + un verbo — I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop. El inglés mantiene la palabrita "to" entre "want" y el verbo siguiente. El coreano pega el deseo directo al verbo, así que los coreanos suelen omitir el "to": "I want buy this" ✗ → "I want to buy this" ✓. Rincón de pronunciación: la "sh" de shop, el diptongo de buy y el "to" débil de "want to".

I want buy or I want to buy? — ¿I want buy o I want to buy?

  1. Emma Minsu, what do you want to buy? Minsu, ¿qué quieres comprar?
  2. Minsu I want buy this bag. Quiero comprar este bolso. (desliz: hace falta "to" entre want y el verbo → "I want to buy")
  3. Emma Say "want to": I want to buy this bag. Di "want to": I want to buy this bag.
  4. Minsu Oh, I want to buy this bag. It's nice. Ah, quiero comprar este bolso. Es bonito.

At the market — En el mercado

  1. Minsu Hello. I want to buy some fruit. Hola. Quiero comprar algo de fruta.
  2. Assistant Yes, we sell fruit here. This market is open every day. Sí, aquí vendemos fruta. Este mercado abre todos los días.
  3. Minsu Good. I want to buy some apples and some bread. Bien. Quiero comprar algunas manzanas y pan.
  4. Assistant Here you are. Thank you! Aquí tiene. ¡Gracias!

Saying what you want: "want to" + verb Decir lo que quieres: "want to" + verbo

To say what you want to do, use "want" + "to" + a verb: I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop, She wants to sell her car. The small word "to" always sits between "want" and the next verb — never leave it out. (For he / she / it, "want" takes -s: she wants to buy.) Korean joins the wish straight to the verb, so Korean speakers often say "I want buy" — in English you must keep the "to": I want to buy.

Para decir lo que quieres hacer, usa "want" + "to" + verbo: I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop, She wants to sell her car. La palabrita "to" siempre va entre "want" y el verbo siguiente — nunca la omitas. (Con he / she / it, "want" toma -s: she wants to buy.) El coreano une el deseo directo al verbo, así que los coreanos suelen decir "I want buy" — en inglés hay que mantener el "to": I want to buy.

  • I want to buy this bag. Quiero comprar este bolso.
  • Do you want to buy some fruit? ¿Quieres comprar algo de fruta?
  • I want to go to the shop. Quiero ir a la tienda.
  • She wants to sell her phone. Ella quiere vender su teléfono.
