English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 21

Shopping Einkaufen

Kaufen und verkaufen: shop, store, market, supermarket, money, buy, sell, customer, shop assistant. Die Kerngrammatik ist „want to" + ein Verb — I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop. Das Englische behält das Wörtchen „to" zwischen „want" und dem nächsten Verb. Koreanisch hängt den Wunsch direkt ans Verb, daher lassen Koreanischsprachige oft das „to" weg: „I want buy this" ✗ → „I want to buy this" ✓. Aussprache-Ecke: das „sh" von shop, der Diphthong in buy und das schwache „to" in „want to".

I want buy or I want to buy? — I want buy oder I want to buy?

  1. Emma Minsu, what do you want to buy? Minsu, was möchtest du kaufen?
  2. Minsu I want buy this bag. Ich möchte diese Tasche kaufen. (Patzer: „to" muss zwischen want und Verb → „I want to buy")
  3. Emma Say "want to": I want to buy this bag. Sag „want to": I want to buy this bag.
  4. Minsu Oh, I want to buy this bag. It's nice. Ah, ich möchte diese Tasche kaufen. Sie ist schön.

At the market — Auf dem Markt

  1. Minsu Hello. I want to buy some fruit. Hallo. Ich möchte etwas Obst kaufen.
  2. Assistant Yes, we sell fruit here. This market is open every day. Ja, wir verkaufen hier Obst. Dieser Markt ist jeden Tag geöffnet.
  3. Minsu Good. I want to buy some apples and some bread. Gut. Ich möchte ein paar Äpfel und Brot kaufen.
  4. Assistant Here you are. Thank you! Bitte schön. Danke!

Saying what you want: "want to" + verb Sagen, was man will: „want to" + Verb

To say what you want to do, use "want" + "to" + a verb: I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop, She wants to sell her car. The small word "to" always sits between "want" and the next verb — never leave it out. (For he / she / it, "want" takes -s: she wants to buy.) Korean joins the wish straight to the verb, so Korean speakers often say "I want buy" — in English you must keep the "to": I want to buy.

Um zu sagen, was man tun will, nimm „want" + „to" + Verb: I want to buy this, I want to go to the shop, She wants to sell her car. Das Wörtchen „to" steht immer zwischen „want" und dem nächsten Verb — lass es nie weg. (Bei he / she / it nimmt „want" ein -s: she wants to buy.) Koreanisch verbindet den Wunsch direkt mit dem Verb, daher sagen Koreanischsprachige oft „I want buy" — im Englischen muss das „to" bleiben: I want to buy.

  • I want to buy this bag. Ich möchte diese Tasche kaufen.
  • Do you want to buy some fruit? Möchtest du etwas Obst kaufen?
  • I want to go to the shop. Ich möchte zum Geschäft gehen.
  • She wants to sell her phone. Sie möchte ihr Handy verkaufen.
