Final chapter: everything comes together. Greeting, introducing yourself, giving your age with ter, counting and using the plural, pointing at things (O que é isto?) and asking the location (Onde fica?) — in one conversation. Social formulas: "Prazer", "Até breve". And obrigado/obrigada returns, agreeing with the speaker. New vocabulary: prazer, de novo, juntos, todos, entender, falar, saber, querer, amor, até breve. This chapter gathers Book 1. Remember the pillars. (1) "ser" for identity/origin: Sou o Mike, sou dos Estados Unidos, é um relógio. (2) Age with "ter", not "ser": Tenho vinte e um anos. (3) Gender rules: o/um (m), a/uma (f), and article and adjective agree — in the plural add -s/-es: dois gatos pretos, as mesas grandes. (4) For an unnamed thing, "o que" + neutral: O que é isto? (5) For location, "ficar" (fixed place) and "estar" (thing/person): Onde fica o banheiro? — O gato está em cima da mesa. And remember obrigado/obrigada: the speaker agrees — a man says obrigado, a woman says obrigada.

Brazilians greet with cheek kisses and hugs — something physical, warm, and immediate.
Cheek kisses
Woman with woman, and woman with man, usually give cheek kisses. The number varies by region — one in São Paulo, two in Rio, even three in parts of Minas. When unsure, one kiss is enough.
Men hug
Man with man shakes hands or, if they're friends, gives a hug with a pat on the back — not cheek kisses. Close friends and family hug warmly.
Closer personal space
Standing near, touching an arm or shoulder while talking, is normal and friendly — not intrusive. And it applies even at a first meeting in social settings; don't expect a reserved handshake among friends of friends.
Congratulations! You've finished Book 1. You can greet, introduce yourself, count, point at things and ask about places — warmly. When unsure about the greeting, offer one cheek kiss (right cheek) in social settings and follow the other person; a handshake works for a formal first meeting. See you soon in Book 2!
