レストランでAt the restaurant
Ordering at a restaurant. After the object (what you eat or drink) you add the particle "o": gohan o tabemasu, mizu o nomimasu. To ask politely, use "…o kudasai": menyū o kudasai. English speakers often drop the "o" (gohan tabemasu → gohan o tabemasu). New words: gohan, asagohan, hirugohan, bangohan, mizu, ocha, mise, menyū, chūmon suru, resutoran. - Yukiマイクさん、なにをたべますか?Mike, what are you eating?
- Mikeごはんたべます。I eat rice. (slip: the object needs the particle "o" — say "gohan o tabemasu")
- Yukiもくてきごに「を」をつけます:ごはんをたべます。The object takes "o": gohan o tabemasu.
- Mikeあ、ごはんをたべます。そしてみずをのみます。Ah, I eat rice. And I drink water.

The object "o" and "kudasai"
Explanation
After the object (what you eat or drink) you add the particle "o". "O" is pronounced like "o": gohan o tabemasu, mizu o nomimasu. To ask politely, use "…o kudasai" (please give me): menyū o kudasai, mizu o kudasai. English speakers often drop the "o" and say "gohan tabemasu" — "gohan o tabemasu" is correct. To go to a place, use "ni": resutoran ni ikimasu.

- みずを のみます。おちゃも のみます。I drink water. I drink tea too.
- レストランに いきます。そして ちゅうもんします。I go to the restaurant. And I order.
