Ordering at a restaurant. After the object (what you eat or drink) you add the particle "o": gohan o tabemasu, mizu o nomimasu. To ask politely, use "…o kudasai": menyū o kudasai. English speakers often drop the "o" (gohan tabemasu → gohan o tabemasu). New words: gohan, asagohan, hirugohan, bangohan, mizu, ocha, mise, menyū, chūmon suru, resutoran. The object "o" and "kudasai"

Explanation

After the object (what you eat or drink) you add the particle "o". "O" is pronounced like "o": gohan o tabemasu, mizu o nomimasu. To ask politely, use "…o kudasai" (please give me): menyū o kudasai, mizu o kudasai. English speakers often drop the "o" and say "gohan tabemasu" — "gohan o tabemasu" is correct. To go to a place, use "ni": resutoran ni ikimasu.

Examples

  • メニューを ください。The menu, please.
  • わたしは ごはんを たべます。I eat rice.
  • みずを のみます。おちゃも のみます。I drink water. I drink tea too.
  • レストランに いきます。そして ちゅうもんします。I go to the restaurant. And I order.
