Verb conjugation (no "быть")
Explanation
Russian verbs change their ending by person. Example "работать": я работаЮ, ты работаЕШЬ, он/она работаЕТ, мы работаЕМ, вы работаЕТЕ, они работаЮТ. In the present there is NO verb "быть" (no "am/is/are"): "Я студент" (I am a student), "Я работаю" — with no linking verb. English speakers, thinking "I AM working", use the infinitive or "есть": "Я работать" ✗ → "Я работаю" ✓. For habit — "обычно", "каждый день". Chain actions with "потом": Я работаю, потом иду домой.
Examples
- Я встаю в шесть часов.I get up at six.
- Утром я иду на работу.In the morning I go to work.

Читаем глаголы— Reading the Verbs
The conjugated verbs drill consonant clusters and the "-ю" ending. "Встаю": the cluster "вст" is said together, "-аю" → "a-yu" (fsta-YÚ). "Работаю": stress on the second "о" (ra-BÓ-ta-yu), unstressed "о" → "a". "Готовлю": the cluster "вл" together (ga-TÓ-vlyu). "Сплю": "спл" — three consonants in a row. Read the verbs below aloud without dropping consonants.
