Miêu tả ngườiDescribing people
Vocabulary for describing people: cao, thấp, tóc, mắt, đẹp, hiền, vui tính, trẻ, già, hơn. Key grammar: an adjective as predicate (no "là") — "Cô ấy cao" (she is tall), "Tóc cô ấy dài" (her hair is long) — and comparison with "hơn": adjective + "hơn" + the other one — "Cô ấy cao hơn tôi" (she is taller than me). English speakers, used to "more tall", tend to put "hơn" BEFORE the adjective — "hơn cao" ✗ → "cao hơn" ✓. Tone corner: "già" (huyền) vs "trẻ" (hỏi), and "đẹp" (nặng).

Comparison: "cao hơn" ("hơn" goes after the adjective)
Explanation
Describe people with an adjective as predicate, with NO "là": "Cô ấy cao" (she is tall), "Anh ấy hiền" (he is gentle), "Tóc cô ấy dài" (her hair is long). To compare, put "hơn" RIGHT AFTER the adjective, then the other one: adjective + "hơn" + B — "Cô ấy cao hơn tôi" (she is taller than me), "Anh ấy già hơn bạn" (he is older than you). English speakers, used to "more tall than", tend to put "hơn" before the adjective — "hơn cao" ✗ → "cao hơn" ✓. Ask a comparison with "hơn không?" or "Ai … hơn?": "Anh ấy cao hơn bạn không?" (is he taller than you?), "Ai trẻ hơn?" (who is younger?). Remember: the adjective goes after the noun (ch20), and no "là" is needed.
Examples
- Cô ấy cao và tóc dài.She is tall and has long hair.
- Anh ấy hiền và vui tính.He is gentle and funny.
- Chị ấy cao hơn tôi.She is taller than me.
- Ai trẻ hơn?Who is younger?
