Giá cả và trả tiềnPrices and paying
Price vocabulary: giá, đồng, đắt, rẻ, trả tiền, tiền mặt, thẻ, miễn phí, tính tiền, tiền lẻ. Key grammar: ask a price with "Cái này bao nhiêu tiền?" — the subject comes first, the question phrase "bao nhiêu tiền" goes at the end. English speakers front the question word like "How much...?" — "Bao nhiêu cái này?" ✗ → "Cái này bao nhiêu tiền?" ✓. Answer with a number + đồng/nghìn. Tone corner: the tones in the price words.

Asking a price: "… bao nhiêu tiền?"
Explanation
To ask a price, put the item first, then add the question phrase at the end: "Cái này bao nhiêu tiền?" (Cái này = the thing; bao nhiêu tiền = how much money). The subject keeps its place at the front — Vietnamese does NOT move the question word to the front. English speakers, used to "How much is this?", often say "Bao nhiêu cái này?" — wrong order. Correct: "Cái này bao nhiêu tiền?". Answer: number + đồng or nghìn — "Năm mươi nghìn đồng". React to a price: "Đắt quá!" (expensive) or "Rẻ đấy" (cheap).
Examples
- Cái này bao nhiêu tiền?How much is this?
- Năm mươi nghìn đồng.Fifty thousand dong.
- Cái áo này đắt quá.This shirt is too expensive.
- Tôi trả tiền mặt.I pay in cash.
