"Where is …?" and place words

Explanation

To ask where something is, say "Where is" + the place: Where is the bank? To answer, put the subject first, then IS, then the place word: The bank is next to the shop. Other place words: behind (The park is behind the school), in front of (The station is in front of the hospital), near (The bank is near the park). The important thing is word order: subject + is + place. Many languages put the verb at the very end ("The bank the shop next to is"), so in English remember to bring "is" up right after the subject.

Examples

  • Where is the bank? — It's next to the shop.Where is the bank? — It's next to the shop.
  • The park is behind the school. The park is behind the school.
  • The station is in front of the hospital. The station is in front of the hospital.
  • The bank is near my house. The bank is near my house.
