English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 24

Places in town Lugares de la ciudad

Lugares y dónde están: place, school, hospital, bank, station, park, next to, behind, in front of, near. La gramática clave es "Where is …?" y responder con una preposición de lugar: The bank is next to the shop. En inglés el verbo "is" va justo después del sujeto: bank + IS + next to the shop. The bank next to the shop is" ✗ → "The bank is next to the shop" ✓.

Where does "is" go? — ¿Dónde va "is"?

  1. Emma Minsu, where is the bank? Minsu, ¿dónde está el banco?
  2. Minsu The bank the shop next to is. (desliz: el coreano pone el verbo al final — en inglés "The bank is next to the shop")

  4. Minsu The bank is next to the shop.

Where is everything? — ¿Dónde está todo?

  1. Minsu Emma, where is the hospital? Emma, ¿dónde está el hospital?
  2. Emma It's near the station. The bank is next to it. Está cerca de la estación. El banco está a su lado.

"Where is …?" and place words "Where is …?" y palabras de lugar

To ask where something is, say "Where is" + the place: Where is the bank? To answer, put the subject first, then IS, then the place word: The bank is next to the shop. Other place words: behind (The park is behind the school), in front of (The station is in front of the hospital), near (The bank is near the park). The important thing is word order: subject + is + place. Korean puts the verb at the very end ("The bank the shop next to is"), so in English remember to bring "is" up right after the subject.

Para preguntar dónde está algo, di "Where is" + el lugar: Where is the bank? Para responder, pon primero el sujeto, luego IS, luego la palabra de lugar: The bank is next to the shop. Otras palabras: behind (The park is behind the school), in front of (The station is in front of the hospital), near (The bank is near the park).

  • Where is the bank? — It's next to the shop. ¿Dónde está el banco? — Al lado de la tienda.
  • The park is behind the school. El parque está detrás de la escuela.
  • The station is in front of the hospital. La estación está delante del hospital.
  • The bank is near my house. El banco está cerca de mi casa.
