まちの ばしょ Places in town
Place words: basho, gakkou, byouin, ginkou, eki, kouen, tonari, ushiro, mae, chikaku. The key grammar is "~ wa …no [place] ni arimasu": ginkou wa mise no tonari ni arimasu. To ask where something is: "~ wa doko desu ka". English speakers drop the particle "ni" and say "tonari arimasu" — always say "tonari ni arimasu". Kana corner: pronouncing the place words.

- Yuki マイクさん、ぎんこうは どこですか？ Mike, where is the bank?
- Mike みせの となり あります。 It's next to the shop. (slip: put in the particle "ni" → tonari ni arimasu)

Grammar
ばしょを いう：「〜に あります」 Saying where: "~ ni arimasu"
ものが どこに あるか いう とき「〜は …の [ばしょ]に あります」と いいます。ばしょの ことば（となり・うしろ・まえ・ちかく）は「の」の あとに おき、その あとに「に あります」を つけます：ぎんこうは みせの となりに あります。ばしょを きく ときは「〜は どこですか」。えいごを はなす ひとは、じょしの「に」を おとして「となり あります」と いう まちがいを します — かならず「に」を いれて「となりに あります」。
