Where from, and where: कहाँ हो? or कहाँ छ?
Explanation
तपाईंको घर कहाँ हो? (literally "where is your home?") asks where someone is from. The answer also takes हो: मेरो घर अमेरिका हो "I'm from America". To say where something is right now, use छ: झोला कहाँ छ? "where is the bag?". The place takes -मा "in, on, at", written joined to it: टेबलमा छ "it's on the table", कुर्सीमा, काठमाडौंमा.
Examples
- तपाईंको घर कहाँ हो?Where are you from?
- मेरो घर नेपाल हो।I'm from Nepal.
- झोलाकहाँछ?Where is the bag?
- किताब टेबलमा छ।The book is on the table.

Two kinds of "you": तपाईं and तिमी
Explanation
तपाईं is the respectful "you": for people older than you, people you have just met, and a safe choice with any adult. तिमी is for friends and for people younger than you: Grandma says तिम्रो to Mike, and Anita says it to Suman. The verb changes too: तपाईं … हुनुहुन्छ, तिमी … छौ. "Your" is तपाईंको or तिम्रो.
Examples
- तिम्रो घर कहाँ हो?Where are you from? (familiar)
- तिमी सन्चै छौ?Are you well? (familiar)
- तपाईं सन्चै हुनुहुन्छ?Are you well? (respectful)
- तिम्रो झोला यहाँ छ।Your bag is here. (familiar)
