Talking about work. Vocabulary: công việc, nghề, làm, công ty, bác sĩ, kỹ sư, y tá, nhân viên, văn phòng, bận rộn. Key grammar: ask about a job with "làm nghề gì?" (what job do you do?) and state a job with "làm + job" — with NO "một" (a/an) and NO "như" (as): "Tôi làm bác sĩ" or "Tôi là bác sĩ" (I am a doctor). The workplace uses "làm ở / làm tại + place": "Tôi làm ở ngân hàng" (I work at a bank). Vietnamese states the job bare, no article. English speakers tend to copy "work AS A doctor" and add "như một": "Tôi làm việc như một bác sĩ" ✗ → "Tôi làm bác sĩ" ✓. Tone corner: "nghề" (huyền) and "làm" (huyền) — two steadily falling tones.

Làm nghề gì? — state a job with no "một", no "như"
Explanation
To ask about a job, use "(Anh/Chị/Bạn) làm nghề gì?" or briefly "làm gì?". To answer, use "làm + job" or "là + job": "Tôi làm bác sĩ" = "Tôi là bác sĩ" (I am a doctor). Vietnamese has NO article "một" (a/an) before the job, and does NOT use "như" (as): the job stands bare right after "làm" or "là". The workplace uses "làm ở / làm tại + place": "Tôi làm ở một công ty" (I work at a company), "Chị ấy làm tại bệnh viện" (she works at a hospital). "Làm việc" (to work) is about the act of working in general: "Tôi làm việc từ 9 giờ" (I work from 9 o'clock). Typical mistake: English says "work AS A doctor", so English speakers insert "như một": "Tôi làm việc như một bác sĩ" ✗ → "Tôi làm bác sĩ" ✓. Drop "như", drop "một" — say the job directly.
