Where you live: 住喺 + place

Explanation

To say where you live: 住 "live" + 喺 + the place: 我住喺大學附近 "I live near the university". Ask 你住喺邊度呀？ "where do you live?". The answer puts the place where 邊度 was: 我住喺黃太隔籬 "I live next door to Mrs Wong". The place can be a name, or a position from chapters 21 and 22: 附近, 隔籬, 對面.

These and those: 呢啲, 嗰啲

Explanation

For one thing, use 個: 呢個 "this one", 嗰個 "that one". For more than one, use 啲: 呢啲 "these", 嗰啲 "those". 呢啲係我嘅書 "these are my books". 嗰啲都係書 "those are books too". 啲 in front of a noun means "the …s", the ones you both know about: 啲櫈喺邊度？ "where are the stools?". The 啲 of chapter 13 came after an adjective and meant "a bit": 平啲. Before a noun, it means more than one.

Examples

  • 嗰go2啲di1橙caang2好hou2平peng4。Those oranges are cheap.
  • 啲di1書syu1喺hai2枱toi2上soeng6面min6。The books are on the table.
  • 呢ni1啲di1係hai6乜mat1嘢je5呀aa3？What are these?
