Bargaining and the total: भयो
Explanation
भयो means "became". When bargaining you hear महँगो भयो! all the time: "that's (become) expensive!" The total uses भयो too: जम्मा कति भयो? "how much does it come to?" — जम्मा तीन सय भयो "that comes to three hundred". To offer a lower price, ask एक सय पचास हुन्छ? "will a hundred and fifty do?" If the shopkeeper agrees, he says हुन्छ "all right". Hundreds put the number before सय: दुई सय 200, तीन सय 300.
Examples
- महँगोभयो!That's expensive!
- जम्माकतिभयो?How much does it come to?
- जम्मादुईसयभयो।That comes to two hundred.
