เยอะหรือน้อยA lot or a little?

Food and quantity vocabulary: ข้าว, ผัก, เนื้อ, ปลา, ไข่, น้ำตาล, เยอะ, นิดหน่อย, น้อย, พอ. Key grammar: quantity words like "เยอะ" (a lot), "นิดหน่อย" (a little), "น้อย" (few) go AFTER the noun: "ข้าวเยอะ" (a lot of rice), "น้ำนิดหน่อย" (a little water), "ผักน้อย" (few vegetables). There is no "ของ" (of) in between. English speakers say "a lot OF rice", putting the quantity before the noun, so they tend to say "เยอะข้าว" ✗ → "ข้าวเยอะ" ✓. Tone corner: เยอะ (high), น้อย (high) — same tone, opposite meaning.

Quantity goes after the noun (no "ของ")

Explanation

In Thai, a quantity word goes AFTER the noun it describes, just like an adjective (ch20): "ข้าวเยอะ" (a lot of rice), "น้ำนิดหน่อย" (a little water), "ผักน้อย" (few vegetables), "เนื้อพอ" (enough meat). No linking word is needed between the noun and the quantity — there is no "ของ". English says "a lot OF rice", which both has "of" and puts the quantity before the noun, so English speakers tend to put the quantity first: "เยอะข้าว" ✗ → the correct form is "ข้าวเยอะ" ✓. Easy to remember: noun first, then the quantity after it — just like colours (เสื้อสีแดง, a red shirt) and adjectives (บ้านใหญ่, a big house).
