Talking about your daily routine and how often you do things. Vocabulary: thức dậy, đánh răng, rửa mặt, mặc quần áo, đi ngủ, thường, luôn luôn, thỉnh thoảng, hiếm khi, không bao giờ, mỗi ngày. Key grammar: adverbs of frequency (how often) go BEFORE the verb: "Tôi thường thức dậy lúc bảy giờ" (I usually wake up at seven), "Tôi luôn luôn ăn sáng" (I always eat breakfast). Scale: luôn luôn > thường > thỉnh thoảng > hiếm khi > không bao giờ. "Không bao giờ" already means "never", so do not add another "không". Because English "usually" can go at the end, English speakers tend to put the adverb after the verb: "Tôi thức dậy sớm thường" ✗ → "Tôi thường thức dậy sớm" ✓. Frequency adverbs go before the verb
Explanation
To say how often you do something, Vietnamese uses adverbs of frequency, and they go RIGHT BEFORE the verb: "Tôi thường thức dậy lúc bảy giờ" (I usually get up at seven), "Cô ấy luôn luôn ăn sáng" (she always eats breakfast), "Chúng tôi thỉnh thoảng đi bộ" (we sometimes walk). Scale from most to least: luôn luôn (100%) > thường (xuyên) > thỉnh thoảng > hiếm khi > không bao giờ (0%). "Không bao giờ" is already negative, so do not add another "không": "Tôi không bao giờ uống cà phê" (not "không bao giờ không uống"). Typical mistake: in English "usually" can go at the end, so English speakers put the adverb after the verb: "Tôi thức dậy sớm thường" ✗ → "Tôi thường thức dậy sớm" ✓. Always put the frequency adverb right before the verb.
