Eu te ligo I will call you
Phone and messages: ligar, atender, mandar um recado. And the object pronouns — me, te, o, a — which in Brazil come BEFORE the verb: "eu te ligo", "ela me chamou".

- Mike Claro. Eu ligo te à noite. Sure. I call you tonight. (slip: pronoun after the verb — in Portuguese it goes before: "eu te ligo")

Para não repetir o nome ("Vou ligar para o João → vou ligar para ele"), o português tem pronomes objeto curtos: me (a mim), te (a você), o / a (ele/ela ou você), nos (a nós). No capítulo 18 você já os viu com verbos reflexivos (eu me chamo, você se levanta). A regra do Brasil falado é simples: o pronome vem ANTES do verbo — "Eu te ligo amanhã", "Ela me chamou", "Eu o vejo na praça", "Você me ouve?". Com dois verbos, o pronome gruda no primeiro ou fica antes do infinitivo: "Vou te ligar" / "Vou ligar para você". "Te" é o mais usado na fala para "você"; "o/a" é mais formal e escrito. Erro típico: em inglês o objeto vem DEPOIS do verbo ("I call you", "I see him"), então os falantes de inglês dizem "Eu ligo te" ✗ ou "Eu vejo o" ✗. Em português falado o pronome vem antes: "Eu te ligo" ✓, "Eu o vejo" ✓.
To avoid repeating the name ("Vou ligar para o João → vou ligar para ele"), Portuguese has short object pronouns: me (me), te (you), o / a (him/her or you), nos (us). In chapter 18 you already saw them with reflexive verbs (eu me chamo, você se levanta). The rule in spoken Brazil is simple: the pronoun comes BEFORE the verb — "Eu te ligo amanhã", "Ela me chamou", "Eu o vejo na praça", "Você me ouve?". With two verbs, the pronoun attaches to the first or sits before the infinitive: "Vou te ligar" / "Vou ligar para você". "Te" is the most used in speech for "você"; "o/a" is more formal and written. Typical mistake: in English the object comes AFTER the verb ("I call you", "I see him"), so English speakers say "Eu ligo te" ✗ or "Eu vejo o" ✗. In spoken Portuguese the pronoun comes before: "Eu te ligo" ✓, "Eu o vejo" ✓.
