BelanjaShopping

Shopping vocabulary: beli, jual, toko, pasar, supermarket, pelanggan, penjual, barang, buka, tutup. Key grammar: "mau + verb" to say what you want to do — mau beli (want to buy), mau jual (want to sell). And like adjectives (ch20), the pointer "ini/itu" (this/that) comes AFTER the noun: "barang ini" (this item; not "ini barang", which means "this is an item"). English speakers, used to "this shirt", put the pointer in front — "beli ini barang" ✗ → "beli barang ini" ✓.

mau + verb; the pointer "ini/itu" after the noun

Explanation

To say what you want to do, use "mau + verb": mau beli, mau jual, mau makan. No word goes between "mau" and the verb. To ask: "Kamu mau beli apa?" (What do you want to buy?). And remember the ch20 pattern: the pointers "ini" (this) and "itu" (that) come AFTER the noun, just like adjectives — "barang ini" (this item), "toko itu" (that shop). Careful: "ini barang" is not "this item" but the sentence "ini adalah barang" (this is an item). English speakers, used to "this shirt", say "beli ini barang" ✗ → "beli barang ini" ✓.

Examples

  • Saya mau beli barang ini.I want to buy this item.
  • Kamu mau beli apa? What do you want to buy?
  • Toko itu buka. That shop is open.
  • Penjual mau jual banyak barang. The seller wants to sell many goods.
