ひとの せつめい Describing people
Words for what a person is like: se, takai, kami, me, nagai, shinsetsu, kirei, yasashii, omoshiroi, yuumei. The key grammar is describing people with adjectives. An i-adjective attaches straight to the noun (nagai kami). A na-adjective needs "na" (shinsetsu na hito). English speakers drop the "na" and say "shinsetsu hito" — say "shinsetsu na hito". Kana corner: na-adjectives and long vowels.

- Yuki マイクさん、おねえさんは どんな ひとですか？ Mike, what is your older sister like?
- Mike せが たかいです。そして しんせつ ひとです。 She is tall. And she is a kind person. (slip: a na-adjective needs "na" before a noun → shinsetsu na hito)
- Yuki 「しんせつな ひと」です：な-けいようしには「な」を いれます。 It is "shinsetsu na hito": put "na" with a na-adjective.
- Mike あ、あねは しんせつな ひとです。そして かみが ながいです。 Ah, my sister is a kind person. And she has long hair.

Grammar
な-けいようし ＋ めいし：「しんせつな ひと」 na-adjective + noun: "shinsetsu na hito"
ひとを あらわす とき、けいようしを つかいます。ぶんの おわりでは そのまま「です」を つけます：せが たかいです、しんせつです。めいしの まえに おく ときは、けいようしの しゅるいで かたちが かわります。い-けいようしは そのまま つきます：ながい かみ、おおきい め。な-けいようしは あいだに「な」を いれます：しんせつな ひと、きれいな ひと、ゆうめいな せんせい。えいごを はなす ひとは「な」を おとして「しんせつ ひと」と いいますが、ただしくは「しんせつな ひと」です。
To describe people, use adjectives. At the end of a sentence, just add "desu": se ga takai desu, shinsetsu desu. Before a noun, the form depends on the type of adjective. An i-adjective attaches as it is: nagai kami, ookii me. A na-adjective takes "na" in between: shinsetsu na hito, kirei na hito, yuumei na sensei. English speakers drop the "na" and say "shinsetsu hito", but the correct form is "shinsetsu na hito".
- ミラーさんは せが たかいです。 Mirā-san wa se ga takai desu. Mr Miller is tall.
- かのじょは かみが ながいです。 Kanojo wa kami ga nagai desu. She has long hair.
- たなかさんは しんせつな ひとです。 Tanaka-san wa shinsetsu na hito desu. Mr Tanaka is a kind person.
- かれは ゆうめいな せんせいです。 Kare wa yūmei na sensei desu. He is a famous teacher.
