อากาศและฤดูWeather and seasons
Weather vocabulary: อากาศ, ร้อน, หนาว, ฝน, แดด, ลม, ฤดู, หน้าร้อน, หน้าฝน, ตก. Key grammar: the subject of weather is "อากาศ" (the weather/air) — "อากาศร้อน" (it is hot), "อากาศหนาว" (it is cold) — the adjective follows directly, with no "เป็น". For rain, use "ฝนตก" (it rains, lit. rain falls). English speakers, used to "it's hot", tend to translate "it" as "มัน" — "มันร้อน" ✗ → "อากาศร้อน" ✓. Tone corner: ร้อน (high) vs หนาว (rising).

Weather: "อากาศร้อน" (the subject is "อากาศ")
Explanation
In Thai, the subject of weather is "อากาศ" (the weather/air). Say "อากาศร้อน" (it is hot), "อากาศหนาว" (it is cold), "อากาศดี" (the weather is nice) — the adjective follows "อากาศ" directly, with no "เป็น". Add a time at the front: "วันนี้อากาศร้อน" (today it is hot), "หน้าร้อนอากาศร้อนมาก" (in the hot season it is very hot). Rain is said differently: "ฝนตก" (it rains, ฝน + ตก = rain falls). Sunshine is "มีแดด" (it is sunny). English speakers, used to "it's hot", tend to translate "it" as "มัน" — "มันร้อน" ✗. But Thai uses "อากาศ", not "มัน", for weather: "อากาศร้อน" ✓ (or just say "ร้อน"). Ask "อากาศเป็นยังไง" (how is the weather?) or "วันนี้ร้อนไหม" (is it hot today?).
Examples
- วันนี้อากาศร้อนToday the weather is hot.
- ฝนตกแล้วIt is raining now.
- หน้าร้อนอากาศร้อนมากIn the hot season it is very hot.
- อากาศวันนี้ดีไหม — ไม่ดี ฝนตกIs the weather nice today? — No, it is raining.
