ร่างกายและสุขภาพThe body and health
Body vocabulary: ร่างกาย, หัว, ท้อง, คอ, มือ, ขา, ปวด, ไข้, ไม่สบาย, หมอ. Key grammar: say what hurts with "ปวด + body part" — "ปวดหัว" (headache), "ปวดท้อง" (stomach ache). "ปวด" is already a verb, so no "มี" is needed. English speakers, used to "have a headache", tend to add "มี" — "มีปวดหัว" ✗ → "ปวดหัว" ✓. Say you are ill with "เป็นไข้" (have a fever) or "ไม่สบาย" (unwell). Tone corner: ปวด (low) vs ไข้ (falling).

Being ill: "ปวดหัว" (no "มี" needed)
Explanation
Say what hurts with "ปวด" followed by a body part: "ปวดหัว" (headache), "ปวดท้อง" (stomach ache), "ปวดคอ" (sore throat), "ปวดขา" (leg pain). "ปวด" is itself a verb, so you can just say "ผมปวดหัว" (I have a headache) — there is no word for "have". English speakers, thinking "have a headache", often add "มี" — "ผมมีปวดหัว" ✗ — wrong. The correct form is "ผมปวดหัว" ✓. Other ways to say you are ill: "เป็นไข้" (have a fever, เป็น + ไข้), "เป็นหวัด" (have a cold), or "ไม่สบาย" (unwell) — none of these use "มี" either. Ask about symptoms with "เป็นอะไร" (what's wrong?) or "ปวดตรงไหน" (where does it hurt?).
Examples
- ผมปวดหัวI have a headache.
- ฉันเป็นไข้I have a fever.
- เขาปวดท้องมากHe has a bad stomach ache.
- ไม่สบายก็ไปหาหมอIf you are unwell, go and see a doctor.
