French · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 26
Qui est plus grand ?Who is taller?
Describing and comparing people. Vocabulary: grand, petit, mince, fort, jeune, sympa, intelligent, les cheveux, les yeux, ressembler. Key point: the comparative is made with « plus/moins/aussi + adjective + que » — « Il est plus grand que moi » (He is taller than me), « Elle est moins timide que sa sœur » (She is less shy than her sister), « aussi grand que » (as tall as). But « bon » has a special form and never takes « plus »: bon → meilleur. English speakers say « plus bon » ✗ → « meilleur » ✓. The adjective agrees: grand/grande, petit/petite. The superlative is « le/la plus + adjective + de »: « le plus grand de la classe » (the tallest in the class).

Comparing: plus/moins/aussi … que; meilleur
Explanation
To compare, you frame the adjective: « plus + adjective + que » (more…), « moins + adjective + que » (less…), « aussi + adjective + que » (as much, equality). « Il est plus grand que moi » (He is taller than me), « Elle est moins timide que sa sœur » (She is less shy than her sister), « Tu es aussi fort que lui » (You are as strong as him). The adjective agrees with the subject: « Elle est plus grande ». Careful: « bon » never takes « plus » — it becomes « meilleur »: « Ce café est meilleur » (not « plus bon »), « meilleure » in the feminine. (The adverb « bien » becomes « mieux ».) The superlative — the most of all — is « le/la/les plus + adjective + de »: « Il est le plus grand de la classe » (He is the tallest in the class), « C'est la meilleure de l'équipe » (She is the best on the team).
