English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 33

I go to work by bus Saya ke tempat kerja naik bus

Berbicara tentang transportasi dan cara kamu berkeliling. Kosakata: bus, train, underground, car, bike, plane, taxi, station, ticket, catch, on foot. Tata bahasa inti: untuk menyebut alat transportasi, pakai "by" + kendaraan TANPA artikel — "by bus", "by car", "by train", "by plane", "by bike". Satu-satunya pengecualian adalah jalan kaki: "on foot", bukan "by foot". Kamu juga bisa memakai kata kerja take atau catch DENGAN "the": "I take the bus", "I catch the train at eight". Jadi "by" tak butuh artikel, tapi "take/catch" butuh "the". Bahasa Korea tak punya artikel, jadi pelajar Korea membuangnya: "I take bus" ✗ → "I take the bus" ✓ (tapi "by bus" ✓, tanpa artikel). Sudut pengucapan: "to" yang tersambung dan lemah dalam "go to work".

take bus or take the bus? — take bus atau take the bus?

  1. Emma Minsu, how do you get to the office? Minsu, ke kantor naik apa?
  2. Minsu I take bus every morning, and sometimes I catch train. Tiap pagi saya naik bus, kadang mengejar kereta. (slip: setelah take/catch butuh "the" — "I take the bus", "I catch the train"; tapi frasa alat "by bus" tanpa artikel)
  3. Emma With take and catch, add "the": "I take the bus", "I catch the train". Dengan take dan catch, tambahkan "the": "I take the bus", "I catch the train".
  4. Minsu I take the bus every morning, and sometimes I catch the train. Tiap pagi saya naik bus, kadang mengejar kereta.
  5. Emma Perfect! But remember: "by bus" has no "the" — "I come by bus". Sempurna! Tapi ingat: "by bus" tanpa "the" — "I come by bus".
  6. Minsu Got it — I come by bus, and I take the bus. Two ways to say it! Paham — "I come by bus", dan "I take the bus". Dua cara mengatakannya!

A trip to the coast — Perjalanan ke pantai

  1. Minsu Emma, how do we get to Brighton this weekend? Emma, akhir pekan ini ke Brighton naik apa?
  2. Emma By train. It's fast, and the station is near my flat. Naik kereta. Cepat, dan stasiunnya dekat apartemenku.
  3. Minsu Where do we buy the tickets? Kita beli tiket di mana?
  4. Emma At the station. We catch the nine o'clock train. Di stasiun. Kita naik kereta jam sembilan.
  5. Minsu And in Brighton? Do we go to the beach on foot? Dan di Brighton? Kita ke pantai jalan kaki?
  6. Emma Yes, the beach is close, so we walk. It's a lovely day out! Ya, pantainya dekat, jadi kita jalan kaki. Hari jalan-jalan yang menyenangkan!

by bus, on foot, take the bus by bus, on foot, take the bus

To say how you travel, English has a fixed phrase: "by" + the means, with NO article. "I go to work by bus." "We travel by train / by car / by plane / by bike." Do not add "a" or "the" here — say "by bus", never "by a bus". The one exception is walking: it is "on foot", not "by foot". You can also talk about the vehicle with the verbs take or catch — and these DO use "the": "I take the bus", "She catches the 8 o'clock train", "Let's get a taxi". So the tricky pair is: by bus (no article) but take the bus (with "the"). Korean has no articles, so learners often drop "the": "I take bus every day" ✗ → "I take the bus every day" ✓.

Untuk mengatakan bagaimana kamu bepergian, bahasa Inggris punya frasa tetap: "by" + alat, TANPA artikel. "I go to work by bus." "We travel by train / by car / by plane / by bike." Jangan tambahkan "a" atau "the" di sini — katakan "by bus", jangan "by a bus". Satu-satunya pengecualian adalah jalan kaki: yaitu "on foot", bukan "by foot". Kamu juga bisa membahas kendaraan dengan kata kerja take atau catch — dan ini MEMAKAI "the": "I take the bus", "She catches the 8 o'clock train", "Let's get a taxi". Jadi pasangan yang rumit: by bus (tanpa artikel) tapi take the bus (dengan "the"). Bahasa Korea tak punya artikel, jadi pelajar sering membuang "the": "I take bus every day" ✗ → "I take the bus every day" ✓.

  • I usually go to work by bus. Saya biasanya ke tempat kerja naik bus.
  • The school is near, so I go on foot. Sekolahnya dekat, jadi saya jalan kaki.
  • I take the train and then I catch a bus. Saya naik kereta lalu mengejar bus.
  • Do you go to the airport by taxi or by train? Kamu ke bandara naik taksi atau kereta?
