English · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 33

I go to work by bus

词汇:bus、train、underground、car、bike、plane、taxi、station、ticket、catch、on foot。核心语法:说交通方式用 "by" + 交通工具,且不加冠词——"by bus"、"by car"、"by train"、"by plane"、"by bike"。唯一的例外是步行:"on foot",不是 "by foot"。也可用动词 take 或 catch 加 "the":"I take the bus"、"I catch the train at eight"。所以 "by" 不加冠词,而 "take/catch" 需要 "the"。 I take bus" ✗ → "I take the bus" ✓(但 "by bus" ✓,不加冠词)。

take bus or take the bus? — take bus 还是 take the bus?

  1. Emma Minsu, how do you get to the office?
  2. Minsu I take bus every morning, and sometimes I catch train. (口误:take/catch 后面需要 "the"——"I take the bus", "I catch the train";但方式短语 "by bus" 不加冠词)
  3. Emma With take and catch, add "the": "I take the bus", "I catch the train". 用 take 和 catch 要加 "the":"I take the bus"、"I catch the train"。
  4. Minsu I take the bus every morning, and sometimes I catch the train.
  5. Emma Perfect! But remember: "by bus" has no "the" — "I come by bus". 完美!但记住:"by bus" 不加 "the"——"I come by bus"。
  6. Minsu Got it — I come by bus, and I take the bus. Two ways to say it! 明白了——"I come by bus" 和 "I take the bus"。

A trip to the coast —

  1. Minsu Emma, how do we get to Brighton this weekend?
  2. Emma By train. It's fast, and the station is near my flat.
  3. Minsu Where do we buy the tickets?
  4. Emma At the station. We catch the nine o'clock train.
  5. Minsu And in Brighton? Do we go to the beach on foot?
  6. Emma Yes, the beach is close, so we walk. It's a lovely day out!

Explanation

I go to work by bus." "We travel by train / by car / by plane / by bike." 这里别加 "a" 或 "the"——说 "by bus",绝不是 "by a bus"。唯一例外是步行:是 "on foot",不是 "by foot"。也可用动词 take 或 catch 谈交通工具——这时要用 "the":"I take the bus"、"She catches the 8 o'clock train"、"Let's get a taxi"。所以棘手的一对是:by bus(不加冠词)但 take the bus(加 "the")。韩语没有冠词,学习者常省掉 "the":"I take bus every day" ✗ → "I take the bus every day" ✓。
