Thai · CEFR Band 1 (A1) · Chapter 39
คุณรู้สึกอย่างไรHow do you feel?
Talking about moods and feelings. Vocabulary: รู้สึก, ดีใจ, เสียใจ, เหนื่อย, เบื่อ, กังวล, ตื่นเต้น, สบายใจ, เครียด, โกรธ. Key grammar: "รู้สึก + adjective" to say how you feel — "ผมรู้สึกดีใจ" (I feel happy), "ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย" (I feel tired). Adjectives are already their own predicate (chapter 5), so they take no "เป็น" in front; "รู้สึก" just adds the sense "this is how I feel right now". You can also say it shortly: "ผมเหนื่อย" (I am tired). English speakers translate "I AM tired" and slip a "เป็น" in front of the adjective: "ผมเป็นเหนื่อย" ✗ → "ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย" or "ผมเหนื่อย" ✓. Tone corner: ดีใจ (dii-jai), เสียใจ (sǐa-cai), เหนื่อย (nʉ̀ay, low).

เป็นเหนื่อย? รู้สึกเหนื่อย— เป็นเหนื่อย? or รู้สึกเหนื่อย
- Somchaiเจมส์วันนี้เป็นยังไงบ้างครับJames, how are you today?
- Jamesผมเป็นเหนื่อยครับI am tired. (slip: no เป็น before an adjective — use รู้สึก or drop it → ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย / ผมเหนื่อย)
- Somchai"เหนื่อย"เป็นคำคุณศัพท์ไม่ต้องมี"เป็น"ครับ.พูดว่า"ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย"หรือแค่"ผมเหนื่อย""เหนื่อย" is an adjective, so it needs no "เป็น". Say "ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย" or just "ผมเหนื่อย".
- Jamesอ๋อ"เป็น"ใช้กับคำนามเช่น"เป็นครู".ตอนนี้ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อยและหิวด้วยครับOh, "เป็น" is for nouns, like "เป็นครู". Right now I feel tired and hungry too.
- Somchaiถูกต้องครับ!ไปกินข้าวกันก่อนแล้วคุณจะรู้สึกดีขึ้นCorrect! Let's go eat first, and you'll feel better.

รู้สึก + adjective (no "เป็น")
Explanation
To say how you feel, use "รู้สึก + adjective": "ผมรู้สึกดีใจ" (I feel happy), "ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย" (I feel tired), "เขารู้สึกกังวล" (he feels worried). In chapter 5 you learned that an adjective can be its own "predicate" — "ผมเหนื่อย" (I am tired) is already a full sentence with no "เป็น". The word "รู้สึก" adds the sense "this is how I feel right now", unlike simply stating a fact. Important reminder: do not put "เป็น" in front of an adjective — "เป็น" is only for nouns (เป็นครู, เป็นคนไทย), not for adjectives. Typical mistake: English says "I AM tired" with the verb "be", so learners translate "am" as "เป็น" and say "ผมเป็นเหนื่อย" ✗ → the correct form is "ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อย" or, shortly, "ผมเหนื่อย" ✓.
Examples
- วันนี้ผมรู้สึกดีใจมากToday I feel very happy.
- เธอรู้สึกเหนื่อย เลยกลับบ้านก่อนShe feels tired, so she went home early.
- ก่อนสอบ ผมรู้สึกตื่นเต้นและกังวลBefore the exam I feel nervous and worried.
- คุณรู้สึกอย่างไรบ้าง — ผมสบายใจ ขอบคุณครับHow do you feel? — I feel at ease, thank you.
