德国人怎么过闲暇？三件事很突出：几乎人人都参加「Verein」（社团），周末大家走进大自然，下午有「Kaffee und Kuchen」（咖啡与蛋糕）。这三个习惯说明了很多关于这个国家的事。

社团生活

In Germany there are hundreds of thousands of „Vereine“ — for almost every hobby: football clubs, choirs, chess clubs, even rabbit breeders. A Verein is more than a sports ground; it is a meeting point where you make friends and do something together. Many children join a „Sportverein“ (sports club) early, and adults often stay in one their whole lives. People like to say: „In Deutschland gibt es für alles einen Verein“ (In Germany there is a club for everything).

足球与远足

Football is the number one favourite sport. On Saturday the „Bundesliga“ is on, and many cheer for their club — whether in the stadium or at a „Public Viewing“. But Germans also love calm: at the weekend many are drawn to the forest or the mountains to go „Wandern“ (hiking). Sturdy shoes, a rucksack, a picnic — and off you go. „Frische Luft“ (fresh air) and exercise are seen as healthy and typically German. After the hike the food tastes twice as good.

咖啡与蛋糕

On Sunday afternoon, around three or four o'clock, comes a lovely tradition: „Kaffee und Kuchen“. Family and friends sit down together, there is coffee and a piece of cake — for example „Apfelkuchen“ (apple cake) or the famous „Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte“ (Black Forest cake). It is not a big meal but a cosy break for talking. Anyone invited often brings a cake themselves. „Gemütlichkeit“ — that German word for warmth and cosiness — describes the moment perfectly.
